Mrs Jeffries

Mrs Jeffries is a character in a cozy mystery series by Emily Brightwell.  Out of 5 stars I would give the 4 titles I have read each a 5.  I love them!  They are so sweet, fun, interesting mysteries and I would love to read every one of the 29 titles she has written.  Bummer! I just checked my library website and they only own 10 of the titles.  I am SO disappointed.  Inter-library loan might be able to get some of the titles for me but they won't order paperbacks since the postage costs as much as a paperback and the service is no longer free here so I won't be trying that.  Dang it! And it is such a good series.  If I would just win the Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes I would buy the library all 29, in large print.  (amongst other things I would do if I won!!!!!! ... I have been entering that contest for 40 years, I think it is my turn, don't you think???) I will just have to find another series.... but if you like cozy mysteries give her a try.

Just checked my library and we only have five of the titles. A library trip sounds good though. We have not been out in a while thanks to the storms. I think I will place an Emily Brightwell order and see what has you sparkling so over those books. ^^

It is so funny your brought up PCH, I whimsically entered one of their contests last night. And YES, after 40 years I definitely think its your turn to win! LOL!

If you read a Mrs Jeffries let me know which one ...I'd love to read the same one at the same time...and let me know what you think. I hope you like them as much as I do. They are just sweet, innocent, good mysteries...I think, anyway. :)

My library doesn't have that one. I can hardly wait to hear if you like it :) I just put a reserve on the remaining 6 I haven't read.

I know you have never read this book, but from the description I give here, do you think this particular adventure was just written on a bad day? I am very sorry to say that I didn't really like this particular book. It starts in the first few pages with the violent murder of a dog (which gave me nightmares) and using the word 'God' excessively. I almost stopped right there. But it actually switched gears very quickly and got a whole lot better after that. I loved the main characters and how the author portrayed them. I loved the soft romance and real life sorts of interactions. However, it then ended very poorly with the main character (supposedly the main character though she hardly does anything throughout the whole book)suddenly making a series of guesses based off simply her intuition, which mysteriously turn out correct; every one of them. At the end of the book, you could still say it was plausible that a different person than the accused actually did it (the accused never admits to the crime). Only the house keeper, assured of her own rightness, keeps telling the inspector that the information she has fed him and made him think he gathered for himself, is the correct information and that he has the right person, until he finally accepts it. Of course, after all he has been through, mostly at her hands, it is little wonder the inspector just wants to put the entire experience behind him and doesn't care about the truth anymore. *laugh* Based off what I have told you here, should I try reading another one? Or am I likely not to like this series?

I have decided to try again with "Mrs. Jeffries & The Feast Of St. Stephen". :)

OH NO! I am so sorry! I really mean that! No, I have not read one where a dog was killed and that would upset me too. And no, I have not seen any use of God or any undesirable language other than "cor blimey" which i don't know what means and "blast a Spaniard." And no, I don't think you will like these. Every single one she is feeding him info that he just seems to obsorb without question and(which is not realistic) and they snoop around without any of the police ever noticing (also not realistic). I just kind of accepted that with a grain of salt. I don't know why they appeal to me but I did enjoy them. I loved that the "help" are treated well and they have made a family of themselves and that really appeals to me. I don't know. Now I feel bad that you read at least one that made you have nightmares and may be reading one that will will dislike as well. :( I'm sorry that I suggested something you didn't like. I just finished Feast of St Stephen yesterday and now I am racking my brain trying to think if there was anything in that one to offend (like the dead dog in the one you read...I am glad I my library doesn't have that one or i would have read it and be upset too). Please accept my apology for leading you to something you didn't like. I truly feel bad. Tell me some books you do like and I will read one of them.

I am reading the second book I mentioned and it is as if an completely different Author is writing it. Please do not be distressed! This book is very much what I had hoped and expected to find in the first book. I think the first book was just a bad egg. Occasionally, in series, there is a book or two that get tossed in just because the author wrote them, not because the stories were any good. And authors, like anyone else, have bad days. I am actually very much enjoying this second book! I have no idea of what any of those English slangs mean either and choose not to investigate so I don't have more words to avoid seeing or hearing. Even Mrs. Jeffries manner of investigating the crime is changed quite a bit in this book as well. I am so sorry for distressing you and did not mean to in any way. There is no way to know what books will appeal without giving them a gander. It is not your fault there was a bad egg in the bunch. I'm just glad I gave another one a try, as this one is very good and I am enjoying it very much. {{{Hugs}}}

You and I are too alike and do not want to offend. :) No two people find everything to be their cup of tea. I was just distressed about the dog & it causing you nightmares. You didn't need that.
